Playing anything after playing assassin’s creed for a month: why the fUCK can’t I climb this
assassin’s creed was the first video game I ever played, and I finished the first game in a weekend more or less without pause. then I went to work on Monday and, being totally unfamiliar with the Tetris effect, was extremely taken aback by the immediate impulse to reach my teller station by vaulting over the counter. I mean, I didn’t even question it at first. I made it maybe two long purposeful steps forward before my brain caught up and I spent the rest of the day doubting my own actions.
One time I played so much Bioshock at the weekend that on my walk to uni the next day I saw a vaguely rectangular bit of trash out the corner of my eye and automatically thought “better pick up that first aid kit”
When fallout 4 came out, I played so much of it that when I saw a pile of wood near my house, I tried to scrap it and was perplexed as to why it wasn’t selectable.
after playing the sims i mistakenly thought i was alive and had feelings
listen no matter how depressed I am whenever this post shows up on my dash I fucking lose it I just laugh so hard, it’s such a good post. The way it’s presented? Soap on a sink nozzle, okay clearly this is some sort of handwashing appliance. Then there’s just water going everywhere no further explanation it’s so good I’m so happy
For those who do not know. Green Day’s “NO TRUMP, NO KKK, NO FASCIST USA” is a reference to the line “NO WAR, NO KKK, NO FASCIST USA” line from MDC’s song Born to Die from 1982. It includes lines like “A racist dream, a world of hate with no regret a Nazi state” before the quoted line.
Shout out to Green Day for both referencing their forefathers of angry political punk and for calling out shit dick elect Donald Trump on national TV.
I read an interview with MDC after the AMA performance and they said that they came up with this chant because KKK members were showing up at their shows, trying to recruit punk kids.
Punk is not a safe space for fucking white supremacists and it never has been.
I read somewhere that punks wore spikes for the specific purpose of fucking up nazis
Yeah. No one wants to punch a spiked jacket. Chains on the arms, or wrapped around the upper arm/armpit through the epulets? Easily accessible weapons, because getting hit with a chain hurts. Multiple chunky watches? They make great improvised knuckle dusters. And all of those are often cheap, and not often realized to be more than just an accessory. Also, leather jackets make great cut resistant (and to a lesser amount, stab and bludgeon resistant) armor.
Everyone’s like “when you stop being dirt poor you’ll start liking capitalism” and now that I’m actually able to survive and have some financial security I’m like, “nope still have long term memory and still want to Eat The Rich”
AKA: you don’t have to be the one suffering to want to end suffering
Also, you can have basic financial security and some nice things and still realise your life would be so much better if you and the people you care about weren’t forced to sell their labor every day to survive under a system that is murdering millions while rapidly making our world uninhabitable.
I feel even worse now that I have more means.
It means that more people are suffering for my life as it is now to be possible.
Unless you’re making a profit by selling the products of someone else’s labor, this isn’t true.
The idea that if you are making a living wage or more (and are thus a little less exploited than the rest of the workers) you are the one doing the exploiting or people are suffering for you, is bullshit. Your role as less exploited worker is designed to make you feel isolated from more exploited workers when in fact you’re still both forced to sell your labor to survive.
The truth is that any wealth you have is tiny and insignificant next to the vast uncountable wealth of the rich and focussing on what you do with that tiny amount of wealth is a diversion from the systems doing the real exploitation.
Workers aren’t dying because you want a smartphone, workers are dying because their boss decided that he could work them to death for maximum profit and the state decided to protect property rights and force people to choose between a deadly job and starvation.
As a less exploited worker you will be asked to be complicit in the oppression of more exploited workers – by being compliant, by voting right wing, by defending a system that rewards you more than others, by asking the more exploited to be less angry, etc – but don’t make the mistake of thinking that the system is working for you or that a single worker would suffer less if you were poor.
